Description

We provide the only test in the world that can identify the lethal COVID-19 virus and differentiate it between 9 other non-lethal viruses with the same symptoms.

NHS frontline workers; please email help@iqdoctor.co.uk to arrange for a 20% discount on your order.

Coronoviruses are a large family of viruses that can cause illness.  There are several types such as Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS). The most recently discovered Coronovirus variant is COVID-19 which is an infectious disease causing an outbreak around the globe.

The most common symptoms of COVID-19 are fever, dry cough and tiredness. Other symptoms have also been reported such as aches and pains, nasal congestion, sore throat, diarrhea and headache. Others carry the virus but do not realise that they do as they have no symptoms at all. This is worrying as it could be passed on to others especially the elderly and the vulnerable without that person’s knowledge.

COVID-19 symptoms can take up to 2 weeks to manifest in infected patients, so it Is important to provide a quick and accurate way to provide testing for those who have come into contact with the virus.  National advice is to stay indoors unless absolutely necessary and to quarantine yourself if you or a family member is showing viral symptoms.  This makes it increasingly difficult to test yourself without putting frontline health workers at risk.

Due to the difficulty the NHS is having in organising testing for front line workers and the general public, IQ doctor is now offering mail order Coronavirus (COVID-19) testing kits which offers a simple self-testing solution you can use at home.  This test not only tests for COVID-19 but for 9 other types of viruses helping bring reassurance and peace of mind for you and your loved ones.

By getting your kit from IQ doctor you will have access to a dedicated team of health care professionals able to provide you with advice and assistance throughout the process.

Test kits are posted out on a next working day service and are processed on a first come, first served basis. Priority will be given to front line NHS staff who are also eligible for a 20% discount.

What we test for?

As well as testing for COVID-19, we test for other strains of Coronavirus as well as common types of flu.   This will help you determine whether you are affected by COVID-19 or possibly a different virus.

  • 2019-nCoV
  • Coronavirus 229E/NL63
  • Coronavirus OC43/HKUI
  • Middle East Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus (MERS-CoV)
  • Pan-Coronavirus (SARS,SARS like, 2019-nCoV)
  • Adenovirus A/B/C/D/E
  • Enterovirus A/B/C
  • Influenza A
  • Influenza B
  • Rhinovirus A/B

This testing method works on a molecular array testing for genetic material (RNA) within the virus. It has a specificity of 97.8% and a sensitivity as low as 50 copies of the virus. Our test helps identify infection at a much earlier stage than other testing methods that rely on detecting antibodies to the infection which are only produced in the latter stages of infection.

How it works

Our test kits are posted to you via next day delivery.  Once you receive your test kit all you need to do is provide a swab sample from the nostrils and throat and post it to our lab.  Our lab will process your sample and provide us with the results within 3-5 working days.  We will then contact you with your results.

Coordination with the NHS

Positive COVID-19 results will be shared with Public Health England to allow this notifiable disease to be tracked.  If you test positive, we will provide advice on what to do next and how to engage with the NHS.

Our lab

We work with a world leading UKAS accredited British laboratory to process your results.

FAQs

What is COVID -19

Coronavirus disease or COVID-19 is an infectious virus which was first identified in Wuhan, China in 2019.  It has now spread globally and has been officially designated as a pandemic.  Because this disease is so new, we are still learning a lot about this disease, and much remains unknown about how and when its spread, why some people are affected and some aren’t, why it can prove fatal for some people – particularly those with underlying health conditions, and the immune response following infection.

What are the symptoms of COVID-19

The most common symptoms of COVID-19 include fever, shortness of breath and cough, but may include diarrhea, muscle pain, fatigue, sore throat, loss of taste and smell, and abdominal pain.  Many people infected with COVID-19 may experience few or even no symptoms, but some people, especially those with underlying conditions, may experience viral pneumonia and multi-organ failure.  Symptoms normally take 5 days to manifest but may be observed from between 2-14 days from exposure.

How is COVID-19 spread
COVID-19 can be spread by being in close proximity with someone affected, or coming into contact with an infected surface.  When people breath, cough or sneeze, small droplets are released into the air at various distances. If infected these droplets can carry the virus with them and infect someone else through direct contact, or via a surface.

How to stop the infection spreading

Do:

  • wash your hands with soap and water often – do this for at least 20 seconds
  • use hand sanitiser gel if soap and water are not available
  • wash your hands as soon as you get home
  • cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or your sleeve (not your hands) when you cough or sneeze
  • put used tissues in the bin immediately and wash your hands afterwards

Don’t:

  • do not touch your eyes, nose or mouth if your hands are not clean

What should I do if I have symptoms of COVID-19

If you have any symptoms you feel may be COVID-19 related call NHS 111 and use the coronavirus service.  Unfortunately, the NHS is operating at full capacity and is unable to test everyone.  IQ doctor is now offering a COVID-19 testing service to help diagnose those who may be affected.

What kind of test is this?

This test is a real-time reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (rRT-PCR) otherwise known as an antigen test and is sensitive to the genetic material of the virus.

How accurate is this test?

Although no test is 100% accurate, it has been demonstrated to  show 97.8% Specificity in as low as 50 copies of the virus.

How do I test myself?

The kit contains a sample collection swab for a combined nasal and throat swab procedure.  Ensure the following steps are followed to ensure a viable sample.

  1. Wash hands before starting.
  2. Open the package containing the swab and remove without touching the soft tip.
  3. While standing in front of a mirror, tilt head back and open mouth.
  4. Insert swab into mouth and swab the back of the throat and tonsils and either side of the

throat avoiding the tongue.

  1. Remove swab from the mouth and while standing in front of a mirror, gently insert swab

into nostril about 1 inch (2.5cm) until some resistance is met.

  1. Rotate the swab 5 times against the nasal walls and repeat in other nostril using the same

swab.

  1. While holding the swab, screw off sample collection tube lid and place swab in the tube.
  2. Break off the end of the swab at the breakpoint and screw the lid back on.
  3. Using the labels provided, affix one label to the sample collection tube, one to the

front of the bag and on to the Screening Request Form.

  1. Place the labelled sample collection tube within the transport tube and seal with the lid

provided. (Fig 2)

  1. Register your kit online and post your kit using the envelope provided

Is the laboratory that process this test accredited?

Our lab is fully accredited and a world leader in diagnostic technology.  The lab is accredited to ISO / IEC 17043 meeting ISO 15189:2012 requirements.

Does this test tell me if I have had corona virus?

Is this test legal

This test is legal unlike the instant antibody blood tests which have yet to receive accreditation from the UK government.  This test contains sample collection kit and is not classified as a medical device.

What is the difference between the antigen test and the antibody test?

In theory the antibody test can tell you if you have previously been infected with COVID-19 and have the antibodies which fight the disease, however no viable tests have been approved by the UK government at this time.
