What is Ovex Suspension?

Ovex Suspension is a medicine used to treat threadworm infections of the gut. It contains the active ingredient mebendazole, which works to kill threadworms inside the body. This banana-flavoured liquid is ideal for adults and children who prefer a suspension instead of tablets.

Who is this medication for?

Ovex Suspension is suitable for:

• Adults
• Children aged 2 years and over

Do not use if:

• You have ever had an allergic reaction to any of the ingredients
• The child is under 2 years
• You are pregnant or think you may be pregnant

What to be aware of

Threadworms spread easily. It is strongly recommended that:

• All family members (except pregnant or breastfeeding women and children under 2 years) are treated at the same time.
• Strict hygiene precautions are followed to prevent reinfection.

Important ingredient information

• This medicine contains sucrose. If you have been told you have an intolerance to some sugars, speak to your doctor before use.
• This medicine contains less than 1 mmol sodium per 5 mL dose, essentially sodium-free.
• Contains propylene glycol (E1520).

How to take Ovex Suspension

• Always shake the bottle thoroughly before use.
• Use the 5 mL measuring cup provided.
• For oral use only.
• Do not exceed the stated dose.
• Always supervise children when taking this medicine.

The dose for the treatment of threadworms is:

• Adults and children aged 2 years and over: 5 ml per family member

If re-infected, your pharmacist may recommend a second 5 mL dose after 2 weeks.

Speak to a doctor if symptoms do not improve after a few days.

This medicine is not recommended for children under 2 years unless under medical supervision and no suitable alternatives exist.

How to Store Ovex Suspension

• Keep out of the sight and reach of children.
• Store below 25°C.
• Store in the original packaging.
• Do not use after the expiry date shown on the carton or bottle.
• Do not dispose of medicines in household waste or wastewater. Ask your pharmacist how to dispose of unused medicine.
