Small blisters, itching and pain during urination (genital herpes) and vaginal discharge for women.As there is no cure for those who come in contact with herpes, and the infection is lifelong, treatments are available which help ease the symptoms and reduce the likelihood of infecting others.
What is Valtrex?
Valtrex is a branded antiviral medication which contains the active component valaciclovir.
The action of Valtrex is to prevent the herpes virus from multiplying and spreading. By suppressing an outbreak, the body combats the virus and reduces some of the symptoms you may experience such as pain and itchiness.
How to Take Valtrex?
To treat a herpes outbreak, take Valtrex at a dose of one 500mg tablet twice daily for five days
This medication comes as a tablet and is taken by mouth and can be taken with or without food.
It is advised to take this medication routinely, usually at the same time every day.
Side Effects of Valtrex
As with any medication, side effects may occur with some patients.
Some of the most common side effects are Diarrhea; dizziness; headache; nausea; photosensitivity reaction; skin reactions and vomiting. If you experience the symptoms above or any additional side effects found in your patient information leaflet please see your doctor for evaluation.
