What is Gaviscon Double Action?
Gaviscon Double Action is a liquid medicine used to relieve heartburn, indigestion, and acid reflux. It works in two ways:
- Forms a protective barrier on top of the stomach contents to help reduce reflux
- Neutralises excess stomach acid to help relieve discomfort and burning sensations
- Each sachet contains a combination of sodium alginate, sodium bicarbonate, and calcium carbonate.
Who is Gaviscon Double Action suitable for?
Gaviscon Double Action sachets are suitable for adults and children aged 12 years and over. Children under 12 should only use it on medical advice.
Tell your prescriber or pharmacist before use if you:
- Are on a low-salt diet or have heart failure or kidney problems, as this product contains sodium
- Have been told you have high calcium levels, kidney stones, or recurrent calcium-containing kidney stones
- Are taking other medicines, as antacids can affect absorption of some treatments
If symptoms persist or you need treatment for more than 7 days, seek medical advice.
How to take Gaviscon Double Action
Take Gaviscon Double Action exactly as directed on the label or as advised by a pharmacist.
Typical dose for adults and children aged 12 years and over
Take 1 to 2 sachets after meals and before bedtime, up to 4 times a day
How to store Gaviscon Double Action
- Store as directed on the packaging
- Keep out of reach of children
- Do not use after the expiry date on the sachets/box
Side effects
Side effects are uncommon, but allergic reactions can occur rarely. Stop using and seek urgent medical help if you develop swelling of the face or throat, breathing difficulty, or a severe rash.
