What is Gaviscon Double Action Liquid?
Gaviscon Double Action is a medication used to treat symptoms of acid reflux. Gaviscon Double Action contains two antacids and an alginate, which work together to neutralise stomach acid to relieve discomfort and pain, and form a protective barrier over acidic stomach contents to soothe the burning sensation in the chest.
Who is Gaviscon Double Action Liquid suitable for?
Gaviscon Double Action is suitable for those experiencing symptoms of acid reflux, such as acid regurgitation, heartburn, or indigestion.
You should not take Gaviscon Double Action if you are allergic to sodium alginate, sodium bicarbonate, calcium carbonate, or any other ingredients contained in this medication.
You should speak to your GP or pharmacist before taking Gaviscon Double Action if you:
- Have been advised to stay on a low-sodium diet
- Need to use this medication for the long term
How to take Gaviscon Double Action Liquid
You should always take Gaviscon Double Action as advised by your GP or pharmacist, and refer to the patient information leaflet.
Adults and children 12 years and over
Take 10-20mls after meals and at bedtime, up to four times a day.
Children under 12
Not recommended for this age group unless prescribed and administered under medical supervision.
If you take too much of this medication, it is unlikely to cause harm but you should inform your GP.
How to store Gaviscon Double Action Liquid
- Keep out of direct sunlight.
- Keep out of the sight and reach of children,
- Store below 30 degrees celsius.
Gaviscon Double Action typically doesn’t cause side effects.
In rare cases, this medication can cause an allergic reaction.
Symptoms of a severe allergic reaction are:
- Difficulty breathing
- Swelling of the tongue, face, lips, and throat
- An itchy rash
- Hives
