About the Test

Whether you are starting GLP-1 treatment, actively losing weight, or maintaining your results, our finger-prick blood tests reveal what the scales cannot show you. Many patients experience profound health improvements that only blood testing can measure, often before reaching their goal weight. Others want to be sure that their bodies are operating optimally at their new weight. It's recommended you get at least one comprehensive blood test done annually to keep on top of your health goals and to ensure you don't get any surprises.

What you may see improve during weight loss

  • Better cholesterol levels
  • Improved blood sugar control
  • Healthier liver function
  • Improved cardiovascular risk profile
  • Better hormonal balance
  • Improved thyroid and metabolic health

These changes may occur before you reach your goal weight and often continue during the maintenance phase. Testing at the right moments gives you a better picture that you're not only getting slimmer but healthier too.

UKAS accredited laboratory analysis
Suitable for GLP-1 patients (Mounjaro & Wegovy)
Progress tracking over time
CARDIOVASCULAR HEALTH
TG Triglycerides — blood fats — often improves significantly during weight loss
TC Total Cholesterol — overall cardiovascular health picture
LDL LDL Cholesterol — "bad" cholesterol — lower levels reduce heart disease risk
HDL HDL Cholesterol — "good" cholesterol — supports cardiovascular protection
Chol/HDL Cholesterol Ratio — useful composite measure of cardiovascular risk
Non-HDL Non-HDL Cholesterol — strong predictor of long-term heart health risk
BLOOD SUGAR & NUTRITION
HbA1c Glycated Haemoglobin — average blood sugar over 3 months — often the most dramatic change on GLP-1s
Vit D Vitamin D — critical for immunity, muscles and bone density during weight loss
Fe Iron ADVANCED — essential for energy and oxygen transport — often depleted during rapid weight loss
HORMONES ADVANCED TEST ONLY
FSH Follicle Stimulating Hormone — insight into hormonal health and balance during body composition change
TEST Total Testosterone — influences energy levels, muscle mass and body composition
E2 Estradiol — important for hormonal balance and metabolic function
LIVER HEALTH ADVANCED TEST ONLY
ALT Alanine Aminotransferase — key marker for liver cell health — liver function often improves on GLP-1s
AST Aspartate Aminotransferase — supports comprehensive liver function assessment
GGT Gamma-Glutamyl Transferase — can indicate metabolic stress and liver strain
THYROID FUNCTION ADVANCED TEST ONLY
TSH Thyroid Stimulating Hormone — primary thyroid screening marker — directly affects metabolism
FT4 Free Thyroxine — measures available circulating thyroid hormone level
FT3 Free Triiodothyronine — the most metabolically active thyroid hormone

Why should I test my blood during weight loss?

Weight loss causes significant changes to your metabolism, hormones, liver function and cardiovascular health many of which you cannot feel or see. Blood testing allows you to measure and track these improvements objectively, giving you a complete picture of your progress beyond the scales.

Which test should I choose — Basic or Advanced?

Basic Test (8 markers): Covers the core cardiovascular and metabolic markers including cholesterol profile, HbA1c and Vitamin D. Ideal as a starting baseline or for patients primarily interested in cardiovascular and blood sugar health.

Advanced Test (17 markers): Includes everything in the Basic test plus hormones (FSH, testosterone, estradiol), liver enzymes (ALT, AST, GGT), full thyroid function (TSH, FT4, FT3) and iron. Recommended for GLP-1 patients wanting a comprehensive metabolic view.

Is this test suitable for Mounjaro or Wegovy patients?

Yes, both tests are specifically designed with GLP-1 patients in mind. The markers selected reflect the health changes most commonly seen during semaglutide (Wegovy) and tirzepatide (Mounjaro) treatment.

How does the finger-prick collection work?

Your kit arrives with a lancet, collection tube, alcohol wipe, plaster and prepaid return envelope. Prick the side of a finger, collect a small blood sample, seal it in the provided packaging, and return it using the pre-paid Royal Mail envelope. Full illustrated instructions are included in the kit.

How often should I test?

We recommend testing at three key stages:

  • At the start of treatment, to establish your baseline
  • At months 3-6 to see measurable improvements in key markers
  • Annually during maintenance, to monitor long-term health improvements

You don't have to stick to this schedule, you can test at any time.

Do I need to fast before the test?

For most accurate results, we recommend collecting your sample whilst on an empty stomach before 11am (water is fine). This is particularly important for the lipid panel and HbA1c. Full guidance is included in your kit.

Is the laboratory UKAS accredited?

Yes. All samples are analysed at a UK-based, UKAS-accredited laboratory. Your results are produced to the same standards as those used by NHS and private hospitals.
