What is SchollMed Once Weekly Fungal Nail Treatment 5% Nail Lacquer?
SchollMed Once Weekly Fungal Nail Treatment is a medicated nail lacquer used to treat mild fungal nail infections in adults aged 18 and over. It is applied directly to the affected nail once a week and works gradually as the nail grows.
It helps clear infection over time, allowing healthy nail to grow through.
Active ingredient: Amorolfine 5% – an antifungal medicine that kills the fungus causing the infection.
What can it be used for?
This treatment is suitable for mild fungal nail infections that may cause:
- White, yellow, or brown discolouration
- Thickened nails
- Brittle or crumbly nails
- A rough or uneven nail surface
It is suitable when:
- Only a small part of the nail is affected
- The infection does not involve the base of the nail
- The nail is only slightly thickened or discoloured
It is not suitable for moderate or severe infections without medical advice.
Who is it suitable for?
Suitable for:
- Adults aged 18 years and over
- People with mild fungal nail infection
- Those willing to apply treatment weekly for several months
Not suitable for:
- Children and adolescents under 18
- People with moderate or severe nail infection
- Anyone allergic to amorolfine
If you are unsure whether your infection is mild, speak to a pharmacist.
How to use
Apply once weekly
1. File the infected nail only
- Use a new nail file.
- Gently roughen the surface.
- Do not use the same file on healthy nails.
2. Clean the nail
- Use a swab to remove nail dust.
- Keep this swab to clean the applicator later.
3. Apply the lacquer
- Dip the applicator into the bottle.
- Paint a thin, even layer over the whole affected nail.
- Let it air dry for 3 minutes.
. Clean the applicator
- Wipe it with the same swab.
- Close the bottle tightly.
- Dispose of the swab carefully, as it is flammable.
Before each new weekly application:
- Remove the previous layer
- File again if needed
- Clean and reapply
How long does treatment take?
Treatment takes time because nails grow slowly:
- Fingernails: around 6 months
- Toenails: around 9–12 months
You may not see improvement for the first 2–3 months. Continue treatment until a healthy nail has fully grown back.
Side effects
Most side effects are mild and settle on their own:
- Slight nail discolouration
- Brittle or fragile nails
Stop using and seek urgent medical help if you notice:
- Swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat
- Difficulty breathing or swallowing
- Severe rash
Other allergic reactions may include redness, itching, hives, or blisters. Seek medical advice if these occur.
Important advice
- Use on infected nails only
- Keep away from eyes, mouth, ears, and nose
- Do not inhale
- The product and used swabs are flammable — keep away from flames and heat
If you also have athlete’s foot, treat the skin infection separately to prevent re-infection.
