Derbac

Derbac is a versatile treatment designed for head lice, pubic lice and scabies. The active ingredient is malathion, an insecticide which works by prohibiting an enzyme within the nit /mite inhibiting its growth, resulting in its death. This specially designed formula can be used by adults and children over the age of 6 months, so is a great option for the whole family. Because it contains no alcohol, this is an excellent choice for anyone suffering from eczema or asthma.

How To Use Derbac

Ensure all infected members of the family are treated at the same time to prevent further spread and  minimize the chance of reoccurrence.

For adults and children above 6 months the directions for the treatment of head lice is as follows:

Evenly apply enough liquid on to dry hair ensuring that the scalp is completely covered. Gently work it in ensuring the hair is fully covered with the formula from root to tip. Allow the hair to dry naturally in a warm but well ventilated room. After 12 hours or the next day shampoo your hair as you normally would. When rinsed use a nit comb to comb the hair whilst wet to remove the dead lice and nits. The treatment should then be repeated after 7 days.

For the treatment of pubic lice the directions are as follows:

Evenly apply the Derbac solution to the entirety of the skin's surface, paying particular attention to any areas saturated with hair for example beard and mustache. Avoid any other areas above the neck. The treatment should be left for a minimum of 1 hour however ideally overnight, remove the product by washing it off . Repeat this treatment after 7 days.

For the treatment of scabies the directions are as follows:

Evenly apply the Derbac solution to the entire surface of the skin, in adults any area above the neck may not be necessary however in children under the age of 2 a thin film of liquid should be applied on the child's scalp face and ears. Ensure you avoid contact with the eyes. The solution should be allowed to sit on the skin for 24 hours (so you cannot bathe during this time). If for any reason the solution is washed off from any area during this time immediately reapply after it has been removed. The treatment should be repeated after 7 days.

Side Effects

The possible side effects of using Derbac malathion solution are:

  • Allergic reaction/anaphylaxis - if this occurs seek medical attention immediately

  • Chemical burns

  • Skin irritation
