What is Bonjela Adult Cool Mint Gel?

Bonjela Adult Cool Mint Gel is a mouth gel used to relieve pain and discomfort from mouth ulcers, cold sores, and sore spots caused by braces or dentures. It contains:

  • Choline salicylate to help relieve pain and reduce inflammation
  • Cetalkonium chloride which is an antiseptic that helps reduce bacteria on the sore area

The gel is clear, cooling, and designed for targeted use directly where it hurts.

Who is it suitable for?

Suitable for:

  • Adults and young people aged 16 years and over

Do not use in children or adolescents under 16 years, due to a possible link between salicylates and Reye’s syndrome.

Speak to a pharmacist or doctor before use if you:

  • Are allergic to aspirin or salicylates
  • Take blood thinners
  • Have a history of stomach ulcers

Who should not use it / Warnings

Do not use:

  • If you are allergic to any ingredients
  • If you have had allergic reactions to aspirin or other salicylates
  • If you develop wheezing or breathing symptoms after using similar products

Stop using and seek urgent medical help if you notice signs of a serious allergic reaction, such as wheezing, shortness of breath, or swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat.

How to use

Best routine

Apply after meals and before bed.

Before applying

  • Wash your hands
  • Rinse your mouth or brush your teeth
  • If possible, gently dry the sore area with a tissue or cotton bud so the gel can stay in place

For mouth ulcers and sore spots

  • Apply about 1 cm of gel onto the sore area using a clean fingertip
  • Massage gently
  • Repeat every 3 hours if needed

For denture sores

  • Remove dentures and wash your hands
  • Apply about 1 cm of gel onto the sore area
  • Wait at least 30 minutesbefore putting dentures back in
  • Do not apply the gel directly to dentures

After applying

Avoid eating or drinking for 15 to 30 minutes so the gel is not washed away.

Do not exceed the recommended frequency.

Side effects

Side effects are not common, but can happen.

Stop using and seek medical help if you develop:

  • Wheezing or coughing
  • Asthma symptoms
  • Shortness of breath
  • Itching or swelling of the face, tongue, or throat
