What is Anbesol Teething Gel?

Anbesol Teething Gel is a medicated gel applied to your baby’s gums to help relieve teething pain and discomfort.

It contains:

  • Lidocaine – a local anaesthetic that gently numbs the sore gum
  • Chlorocresol and cetylpyridinium chloride – antiseptics that help reduce germs on the gums

It is designed to provide targeted relief when simple, non-medicated methods have not been enough.

Who is it suitable for?

Suitable for:

  • Babies aged 5 months and over
  • Older infants and children experiencing teething discomfort

Not suitable for:

  • Babies under 5 months

If you are unsure whether symptoms are due to teething, speak to a pharmacist or doctor.

Who should not use it / Warnings

Do not use:

  • If your baby is allergic to lidocaine or any of the ingredients
  • For longer than 7 days for the same teething episode

Do not combine with other local anaesthetic teething gels.

If your child is taking other medicines, including paracetamol or ibuprofen, speak to a pharmacist or doctor before use.

If symptoms do not improve or you are worried at any point, seek medical advice.

How to use

  • Wash your hands.
  • Place a pea-sized amount of gel on a clean fingertip.
  • Gently rub onto the sore gum.

If needed, you may repeat after 3 hours, but do not use more than 6 times in 24 hours.

Do not exceed the recommended dose.

Side effects

Like all medicines, Anbesol Teething Gel can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.

Possible side effects include:

  • Allergic reactions such as rash, itching, swelling, or difficulty breathing
  • Mouth ulcers
  • Dermatitis causing red, itchy, or scaly skin

Stop using and seek medical help immediately if signs of an allergic reaction occur.
