Frequently asked questions
Interested in finding out more about our range of burn and scald treatments, how they work and how to use them? We've answered some frequently asked questions below, but if you'd like more information, please don't hesitate to get in touch.
What's the difference between a burn and a scald?
Burns are caused by dry heat - something like a hot pan or an open flame. Meanwhile, scalds are caused by hot liquids, such as boiling water or hot cooking oil. The treatment approach for both is similar, and the medications listed above can be used for either a burn or a scald.
How long do burns and scalds take to heal?
It depends on their severity and how they're treated; generally, minor burns and scalds can heal in around two weeks, although more severe burns can take considerably longer to heal.
Should I keep my burn or scald covered?
Once you've cooled the burn with cold water (or a cooling gel), it's a good idea to keep the affected area covered to help it heal. The NHS advises covering more severe burns with cling film.
