About Genital Herpes

Genital herpes is a common sexually transmitted infection (STI), which is passed on through vaginal, oral and anal sex.

Although a large number of those who have genital herpes do not experience symptoms, those who may experience symptoms may include the following:

Small blisters, itching and pain during urination (genital herpes) and vaginal discharge for women.

As there is no cure for those who come in contact with herpes, and the infection is lifelong, treatments are available which help ease the symptoms and reduce the likelihood of infecting others.

What is Acyclovir?

Acyclovir is an antiviral medication that works by preventing the growth of the virus, thereby reducing the severity of the infection and preventing its spread of the infection.

In addition to speeding the healing process of sores, controlling new sores, and reducing pain and itching, this medication may also reduce the length of time pain remains after the sores have healed.

How to Take Acyclovir?

Acyclovir tablets are to be swallowed with water, with or without food. Make sure to drink plenty of fluids while you are on this medication unless advised otherwise.

It is recommended to take one Acyclovir tablet three times a day for 5 days. For suppression treatment, take one tablet twice a day.
