What is Buttercup Cough Syrup?

Buttercup Cough Original Cough Syrup is a traditional herbal remedy to treat coughs, cold and sore throats. Buttercup Cough Syrup contains squill liquid extract and capsicum tincture, which work together to relieve coughs, colds and sore throats, loosen mucus and clear airways, and soothe irritation.

Who is Buttercup Cough Syrup suitable for?

Buttercup Cough Syrup is suitable for adults and children aged 12 and over who have a cough or sore throat.

You should not take Buttercup Cough Syrup if you are allergic to squill liquid extract, capsicum tincture or any other ingredients contained in this medication.

Buttercup Cough Syrup should not be taken by those under the age of 12 or by those who are breastfeeding.

You should check with a GP or pharmacist before taking Buttercup Cough Syrup if you:

  • Have a sugar intolerance
  • Have epilepsy
  • Have liver disease
  • Suffer from alcoholism
  • Are taking any medications which interact with alcohol

How to take Buttercup Cough Syrup

You should always take Buttercup Cough Syrup as advised by your GP or pharmacist, and always refer to the patient information leaflet.

For adults, the elderly and children aged 12 and over

Take two 5ml spoonfuls three times a day, and at bedtime if the cough is troublesome at night.

If you forget to take a dose

Take the next dose when you remember and adjust the time for your following dose. Do not take a double dose to account for a missed dose.

If you take too much

It could result in alcohol intoxication. If you have overdosed, seek medical attention immediately and do not take any further doses.

How to store Buttercup Cough Syrup

  • Keep below 25 degrees celsius
  • Keep out of the sight and reach of children
  • Do not use after the expiry date

Buttercup Original Cough Syrup can cause side effects, however not everyone will get them.

Common side effects experienced by those taking this medicine are:

  • Abdominal pain
  • Nausea
  • Diarrhoea
  • Vomiting

In rare cases, you can experience an allergic reaction to this medication. Symptoms of a severe allergic reaction are:

  • Skin rash
  • Itching
  • Swelling of the lips, face, tongue or throat
  • Difficulty breathing
