What is Savlon Scar Prevention Gel?

Savlon Scar Prevention Gel is a clear, cooling gel designed to support the skin’s natural healing process and help reduce the appearance of scars after minor skin injuries. It forms a moist, protective layer over the skin to create an optimal healing environment.

It can be used for:

  • Minor cuts and scratches
  • Grazes
  • Minor burns
  • Superficial scalds
  • Everyday minor skin injuries that do not require medical treatment

Active ingredient: Carbomer, which helps create a protective, hydrated layer to support healing.

Who is it suitable for?

Suitable for:

  • Adults
  • Children aged 12 years and over

If you are unsure whether a wound requires medical treatment, speak to a pharmacist or healthcare professional.

Who should not use it / Warnings

Do not use:

  • On infected wounds unless advised by a healthcare professional
  • On large, deep, or heavily bleeding wounds
  • On large areas of skin for long periods
  • Alongside other skin treatments on the same area unless advised

Seek medical advice if the wound becomes very red, hot, swollen, painful, or starts to ooze pus.

Avoid contact with the eyes, inside the nose, and mouth. If it gets into the eyes, rinse thoroughly with water.

How to use

  • Clean and gently dry the affected area.
  • Apply a thin layer of gel directly onto the wound.
  • Cover with a clean plaster or suitable dressing if needed.
  • Reapply as necessary until healing is complete.

Change dressings daily or sooner if they become wet or dirty.

Avoid picking at scabs to help reduce the risk of scarring.

Side effects

Side effects are usually mild and short-lasting but may include:

  • Mild skin irritation
  • Redness
  • Itching
  • Burning or stinging at the application site

Stop using and seek medical advice if irritation persists or worsens.

When to seek medical advice

Seek medical advice if:

  • The wound does not improve after a few days
  • The wound worsens
  • Signs of infection develop
  • The injury is deep, large, or heavily bleeding
