What is Anthisan?

Anthisan cream is an antihistamine cream containing the active ingredient mepyramine maleate. It is used to treat reactions by blocking the natural substance histamine, which is released in the body when you have an allergic reaction.

Anthisan cream is a suitable treatment to help with insect stings, bites and nettle rashes.

Who is Anthisan suitable for?

Anthisan is suitable for those suffering with symptoms or reactions relating to insect stings, bites and nettle rashes.

You should not use Anthisan if you are allergic to mepyramine maleate or any other ingredients in Anthisan cream.

You should not use Anthisan cream on broken skin, or skin affected by eczema.

You should consult your GP or pharmacist before using Anthisan if you take other medications, or if you’re pregnant or breastfeeding.

How to use Anthisan cream

You should always use Anthisan cream as advised by your GP or pharmacist and always refer to the leaflet.

For adults, the elderly and children aged 2 and over , the recommended dose is to use Anthisan two or three times a day for three days.

  • Apply the cream directly to the skin
  • Use as soon as possible after the bite/sting/rash develops
  • Do not use the cream for more than three days
  • Talk to your GP or pharmacist if you are still struggling with your symptoms.

How to store Anthisan

  • Keep out of the sight and reach of children
  • Keep out of direct sunlight
  • Below 30 degrees celsius
  • Do not use this cream after the expiry date

Blog

It is not common for Anthisan to cause side effects. The most serious side effect to look out for is signs of a severe allergic reaction.

Signs of a severe allergic reaction include:

  • A rash
  • Difficulty breathing
  • Difficulty swallowing
  • Swelling of the lips, face, throat, or tongue
  • Skin redness
  • Itching and irritation of the skin

If you suspect you are having an allergic reaction, stop using Anthisan immediately and seek medical advice.
